After photographing weddings throughout the Tahoe area for years, we’ve learned that every venue has its own rhythm, light, weather patterns, and best locations for photographs. Choosing your venue is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make, and working with a photography team who understands the landscape can make the entire experience feel more relaxed, intentional, and beautifully documented.

How to Choose a Lake Tahoe Wedding Venue

The view matters, of course — but some of the things that make the biggest difference on a wedding day aren’t always obvious during your first venue tour.

When we photograph a venue, we pay attention to how people move through the space, where the light falls throughout the day, how exposed the ceremony location is to sun and wind, what happens if the weather changes, and how much time is required to travel between getting ready, the ceremony, portraits, cocktail hour, and the reception.

Before choosing your Lake Tahoe wedding venue, we recommend considering:

Where your guests will stay.
If most guests are traveling to Tahoe, proximity to accommodations can make the entire weekend easier.

How much transportation is involved.
Tahoe traffic, mountain roads, parking, and separate ceremony and reception locations can all influence your timeline.

Your weather backup plan.
Mountain weather can change quickly, even during summer.

The ceremony light.
The same ceremony location can photograph completely differently depending on the time of day and direction of the sun.

Where portraits can happen.
Some venues have beautiful portrait locations within a few steps of the ceremony, while others may require additional time or transportation.

What you want the weekend to feel like.
A resort weekend, private estate celebration, mountaintop ceremony, and intimate lakeside wedding all create very different experiences for your guests.
