Our First Wedding of 2019: Rio + Jess’s Romantic Wedding Lost in the Sierra's

We were so happy to be back at Chalet View Lodge with Rio and Jess for their wedding after shooting their engagement session earlier this winter. The couple, who are from Los Angeles, was surrounded by a village of loving people - their friends and family members were all such amazing individuals to be around.

As per standard at Chalet View Lodge Jess and Rio had the whole venue to themselves all weekend long which really made it the perfect wedding venue for them and their love for the Sierra's. It all worked out perfectly even the rainy forecast proved to be a false alarm - instead, there were just a few drops before the sun decided to come out, allowing us to have some great light throughout their whole day.

Some of our favorite details from the wedding included the mini mason jars (engraved with R+J for the couple’s initials) filled with shots of tequila, the Easter egg hunt planned for the day after the wedding, and the amazing live band that made all of us dance from beginning to end. (We were also super impressed with some of the dance moves we saw - everyone's dance lessons definitely paid off!) However, one of the most memorable moments happened at the reception, when Rio’s brother, Forest, gave his speech via Skype on a big screen. He couldn’t make it to the wedding because he is actively serving in the military, so it was so sweet and incredibly moving how he was included. I don't think anyone could hold their tears back hearing him talk so sincerely about God and the love Rio and Jess have for each other and in their families.

As the evening continued, we helped the couple sneak away (along with their dog, Reagan) for a private walk so they could soak it all in (complete with their newly embroidered Mr. and Mrs. jackets). To end the perfect day, everyone sent Rio and Jess off with sparklers and, our favorite, ice cream sandwiches.

Love At First Sight: Dez and Taylor’s American River Resort Wedding

To believe in the power of love at first sight is one thing, but to trust it enough to propose to someone after knowing them for just six weeks is something completely different. The probabilities of meeting that person might not be high, but it’s exactly what happened to Dez and Taylor - and their love is proof that it’s real. After convincing Taylor that he was serious about his proposal (and brushing off the response from a child passing by who told him that he shouldn’t ask Taylor to be his wife - not the answer he planned on getting), the couple opted to elope, using their day at the American River Resort in Coloma, California as a chance to celebrate with friends and family.

In lieu of the traditional way most couples do wedding ceremonies, Dez and Taylor went the laid-back route. Their wedding ceremony, much more of a celebration than a huge event, was super cozy and joyful. The American River Resort proved to be the perfect scenic site for the down-to-earth, beach-loving couple - capturing incredible pictures was easy. Not only was the fall weather perfect, but the two couldn’t stop making each other laugh - a photographer’s dream.

From the sunset forest ceremony that overlooked the American River to toasts that made everyone laugh, each moment felt meant-to-be and special. To match the fun-loving vibe, the dessert assortment was out of this world, including doughnuts, s’mores and, of course, cake. The couple and their small group of guests (about 50 in total) danced the night away under the stars.

A Charming Riverside Wedding with Tyler + Channey

Although Tyler and Channey met each other at Humboldt University, it seemed like they had been together forever. One of the sweetest couples we’ve ever had the pleasure to work with, Tyler and Channey’s wedding was perfect from start to finish. From laughter and tears, to dancing and kissing, there’s nothing better than knowing that no matter which moment is captured, it’s going to be the right one.

The couple’s wedding was held at the River Ranch and Lodge in North Lake Tahoe, which was the perfect outdoor, riverside location for this down-to-earth, laid-back couple. The River Ranch and Lodge is known for its beautiful views, especially its nooks that cozy up against the Truckee River - the famous Tahoe mountains in the background.

We loved how Tyler played the guitar for his bride as she walked down the aisle, looking absolutely stunning in her dress. And while we’ve been to plenty of weddings, this was the first where we got to see an actual “tying of the knot” - parents coming up to help the couple. It might have also been the first where we got to see the traditional cake cutting ceremony turn into a full-fledged (yet endearing) food fight between the bride and groom. (Don’t worry, they made up with a kiss that rivaled their first kiss as Mr. and Mrs.)

Plenty sweet and a whole lot of fun, it was the picture-perfect bohemian style wedding that we just can’t get enough of. Oh, and then there was the DJ, who transformed the reception into a full-on nightclub - to say that the wedding was wonderfully fun is a complete understatement.

The whole day was just filled with love, warmth, laughter - and a whole lot of great photos to remember it by.

The Thrill of Falling in Love: Our Adventure with Danielle and Will

Eighteen years ago in South Lake Tahoe, Danielle and Will had their first “fancy dinner” together at Chart House. Two children and many wonderful memories later, the couple finally had the opportunity to officially tie the knot. Choosing the Chart House Restaurant for the location of their wedding was nostalgic and personal, as was the fact that their daughter, Alie, an Agriculture Major at CSU, created each of the stunning bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres, and centerpieces for the entire wedding ceremony and reception.

To see a couple like Danielle and Will still loving the adventure of being together after eighteen years was a reminder of why we do what we do as photographers - to capture fleeting moments and freeze them on film.

Danielle and Will took us by surprise when they said that they wanted a “real” adventure session for their first-look. We challenged them to a gorgeous hike up to one of our favorite spots and loved how enthusiastically they agreed. The stunning pictures we captured at the top of the hike with Danielle in her flowing wedding gown and Will in his classic suit prove that even tough uphill climbs, both in life and in relationships, always have a reward when you make it to the top.

We loved how gung-ho Danielle and Will were the entire day. Something tells us that it’s that incredible relationship built almost over two decades that kept them strong and smiling every step of the way. And, at the end of the day, not only had we fallen for this awesome couple - but they had fallen for our style of adventure photography, which is just icing on the cake.
