Ali & Galen’s Palisades Tahoe Wedding: A Mountain Wedding Weekend Above Olympic Valley

There’s something about a wedding in the mountains that changes the pace of a day.

The air feels quieter. Guests settle into the experience differently. Conversations linger a little longer against an alpine backdrop that already feels cinematic before anything is styled or arranged.

For Ali & Galen, a wedding at Palisades Tahoe felt less like choosing a venue and more like inviting the people they love into a place that already shaped their life together.

Set high above Olympic Valley with panoramic Sierra Nevada views, their wedding weekend reflected years of ski trips, mountain mornings, close friendships, and a shared love for Tahoe that had slowly become part of their everyday life together.

Why Ali & Galen Chose Palisades Tahoe for Their Wedding

Tahoe had already become part of their rhythm long before they became engaged.

After meeting in graduate school in New Hampshire, Ali & Galen built much of their relationship around shared time outdoors — skiing, hiking, cooking together, weekends with friends, and eventually regular winter drives from San Francisco to Tahoe.

Skiing especially became part of the foundation of their relationship.

When it came time to plan their wedding, they knew they wanted the setting to feel personal rather than simply beautiful. They toured venues throughout the Tahoe area but kept returning to one thing: the mountains themselves.

They wanted expansive views.
They wanted guests to feel immersed in Tahoe.
And they wanted the landscape to carry part of the experience naturally.

At High Camp, they found exactly that.

A Relationship Built Around the Mountains

Skiing became one of the constants in Ali & Galen’s relationship long before they ever planned a wedding.

After eventually moving to California, they continued building their routines around Tahoe winters, making regular drives from San Francisco to the mountains nearly every weekend throughout ski season.

Tahoe slowly became more than a destination.

It became familiar.
A place layered with traditions, memories, and shared experiences over time.

Even outside of winter, their relationship naturally centered around being outdoors together — hiking, traveling, cooking, playing board games with friends, and spending time with their cat Frankie, who frequently joins them on Tahoe weekends and mountain adventures.

That connection to place became a meaningful part of how they envisioned their wedding day from the very beginning.

The Proposal at Palisades Tahoe

Their proposal unfolded the same way much of their relationship had: outside, in the mountains, and without unnecessary production.

While skiing together at Palisades Tahoe, Galen spent the day leading Ali through different parts of the mountain before eventually bringing her out toward Granite Chief later in the afternoon.

They paused to take in the view together after a long day of skiing, surrounded by the kind of alpine scenery that had already become deeply familiar to them over the years.

And there, high in the mountains above Tahoe, he proposed.

The setting felt entirely aligned with who they already were together — thoughtful, grounded, adventurous in a quiet way.

Bringing Their Love of Tahoe Into the Wedding Day

When it came time to plan the wedding, Ali & Galen knew they wanted the landscape itself to play a central role in the experience.

They explored several venues throughout Tahoe but kept returning to the same feeling: they wanted the mountains to be present everywhere throughout the day.

For them, Tahoe wasn’t just beautiful.
It was personal.

Their wedding design reflected that balance beautifully:

  • layered blue and green tones inspired by their home,

  • colorful florals arranged organically throughout the space,

  • live music that brought warmth and movement into the evening,

  • and an atmosphere that prioritized experience over excess.

Nothing felt overly styled for the sake of appearance.

Instead, the entire day felt rooted in the people, places, and experiences that already mattered most to them.

A Wedding Weekend Centered Around Experience

One of the most meaningful parts of destination weddings in Tahoe is the way they allow people to settle into time together more fully.

For Ali & Galen, that mattered deeply.

With many guests traveling from the East Coast, the weekend became less about a single event and more about gathering everyone they love in a place that already felt like home to them.

There’s something especially meaningful about introducing people to a landscape that has shaped your relationship over time.

And at Palisades Tahoe, the mountains naturally became part of the atmosphere of the entire celebration.

Capturing Ali & Galen’s Wedding at Palisades Tahoe with VILD Photography

At VILD, we’re always drawn to weddings where connection feels inseparable from place.

Ali & Galen’s wedding carried that effortlessly.

The mountains created scale and atmosphere naturally, but what stood out most throughout the day were the quieter moments within it:

  • friends gathered together in alpine light,

  • movement across the tram deck before the ceremony,

  • the stillness of the mountains settling in during dinner,

  • and the feeling that everyone present fully understood why Tahoe mattered so much to them.

Our approach to documenting weddings like this stays observational and intentional — allowing moments to unfold naturally rather than over-directing them.

Because ultimately, weddings like Ali & Galen’s aren’t memorable simply because of the scenery.

They’re memorable because of how the experience felt to be inside of.

And that feeling is always what we’re paying attention to first.
