Kelly and Hal's Pretty Picnic Wedding in Lake Tahoe
It takes a special touch to turn an everyday picnic ground into a magical, romantic wedding venue, luckily, Kelly and Hal have just that.
Easy-going and outdoorsy (the couple loves to spend time fencing, climbing and slacklining), Kelly and Hal chose to have their ceremony at Regan Beach, while their elegant reception took place at the Kiwanis Gazebo at Bijou Community Park. As a designer, Kelly’s eye for details proved invaluable, completely transforming the intimate outdoor venue with graceful finishes, like subdued pops of coral zinnias, creamy roses, and citrus-shade ranunculus, delicate lace table runners, simple taper candles, and pennant flags crafted from the kind of antique material that looks like it has been treasured for decades.
Kelly chose to wear a tea-length wedding dress, which perfectly complimented the laid-back, charming vibe, and, in my opinion, looked even more glamorous than some of the longer, more traditional versions. And, because of the simple grey vest worn by Hal, who opted not to wear a jacket, every attire detail felt balanced and “just right”, nothing too contrived, nothing unnatural.
With a truly intimate guest list (there were about 25 to 30 guests in total), Robert and I were able to capture some wonderfully candid moments of the couple and their families, all of which highlight how beautifully relaxed the entire day was, from walking down the aisle to playing lawn games at the reception.
If there’s one thing I learned from this seemingly simple and sweet wedding, it’s that attention to details really pays off and that all weddings should have a slackline set up! What a fun idea!
